Effectively Leverage Your Human Capital

Eric Miller is President of eSmart Assessments, LLC and his focus is on helping businesses interested in growing from good to great be successful in that effort by adding web-based human capital evaluation products. His advice:

You Can’t Correct a Poor Hiring Decision.

No amount of money can solve the problems created when you hire or promote the wrong person. Traditional hiring methods fail to give you the essential information you need to make your best hiring and promotion decisions.  You know the problems created and the costs involved when the wrong person is placed in a position of responsibility either through hiring or promotion. You know too that the costs related to turnover, such as lost productivity and training expenses, have a negative effect on your bottom line.

Assessments offer a solution. Historically, employers depend upon résumés, references and interviews as sources of information for making hiring decisions. In practice, these sources have proved inadequate for consistently selecting good employees.

Leveraging your Human Capital

You will be able to quickly work on your people related challenges (current and future) using the assessment information. The assessment information will help you in improve overall employee productivity. And, assessment information will identify that you either have the right people in the right positions and or, you may need to make adjustments either in duties assigned or position re-assignment.  The goal is good employee retention and development.

Recommended Read - The Medici Effect

“The Medici Effect is one of the most insightful books about managing innovation I have ever read.  Its assertion that breakthrough insights occur at novel intersections is an enduring principle of creativity that should guide innovators in every field.”

A Message from the President - Marquis McE. Smith, III

I'd like to welcome all of our new members to the Business Opportunity Network! We are growing quickly and the number of personal introductions is reaching an all time high! The goal of BON is to help you increase your sphere of influence and therefore your client base. We are contemplating the addition of 3 new locations for BON meetings - Timonium, Owings Mills, and Canton in order to accommodate the growth of our organization - and would welcome your comments on specific locations of interest. Please remember, however, that every effort is being made to maintain the integrity and quality of our group's membership.

All new prospects for individual membership will be asked to complete a membership application which will be reviewed by our membership committee. Our desired target mix is 50% business owners and 50% high level sales, marketing or business development professionals. Any business professional who fits that description and is interested in learning about our organization should be directed to Brian Razzeque to receive an application. Our annual dues of only $120 per year makes The Business Opportunity Network one of the best values for expanding your business in Maryland.

Please forward this newsletter to any contacts who you think might be a good addition to our membership. I am looking forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming meetings!

Thoughts about Happy Hour - Drew Lenear

"Another great BON networking event!! I was both a little disappointed and very happy to see more new faces than regulars.  Apparently many of us did a good job of getting the word out on the event but then couldn't make it ourselves. Anyway the evening was a success the food was good and plentiful. The new people I spoke to thought our organization had a good mix of professionals and that we were all very welcoming.  Many thanks to Jennifer Harrington and Anne O’Brien for putting it together!"
